Leeds International Jazz Educators Conference

Written by  Frank Griffith

The Leeds International Jazz Educators Conference (LIJEC)is hotting up quite nicely and is to be held at the Leeds College of Music on 29/30 March. One of the highlights being an afternoon workshop and evening concert by NYJO on Friday 30th at The Venue so get your tickets now. Local schoolkids and students of all ages are encouraged to come along to the workshop so  please get the word around.

This is a welcome addition to LIJEC as not only does it provide some tangible Jazz Education but an important performance forum as well which has been somewhat lacking at LIJEC in recent years. The keynote speaker will be percussionist, Trilok Gurtu who also will bring something new and different to the party. I am also happy to announce that I will be presenting a paper on big band arranging techniques using pieces from my recently released big band CD “Holland Park Non-Stop”
