PRSF Promoter's Award 2012 - Promoting New British Jazz

Awards to Encourage Small Scale Promoters UK-wide

PRS for Music Foundation and Jazz Services are together inviting the annual applications for funding from small-scale jazz promoters who show a commitment to programming music by living British jazz composers.  To qualify for funding, applicants must propose a series of no fewer than six promotions, to take place between September 2012 and August 2013.  Festivals are NOT eligible to apply.  The PRS for Music Foundation will make awards from £500 up to £2,000.

The aim of the Awards made by the PRS for Music Foundation (in collaboration with, and administered by, Jazz Services), is to encourage small-scale promoters of new British jazz music, presenting material that is fresh, exciting and helps invigorate the UK’s jazz music scene.  Award winners will be selected by a joint panel whose members will be drawn from PRS for Music Foundation, Jazz Services and Serious, as well as including established musicians.  The panel will be looking for seasons of events which feature a majority of music by living British jazz composers and performers.

Programmes should be made up of a series of events by British bands, where musicians are performing their own work and/or programmes featuring new jazz works by British composers.  Applicants must also be offering appropriate fees and providing good working conditions for musicians, providing suitable audience facilities, and demonstrate sound marketing practice that attracts new audiences and builds on existing audiences.

Applicants must demonstrate that they are a non-profit making organisation, but do not have to be a registered charity.  All applicants are required to have regularly been promoting live jazz events as a substantial and discernable part of their music programme in the last year.

To expand & develop the jazz promoter base, the panel wants to encourage new jazz promoters who wish to establish themselves in their first year of promoting jazz.  As such, there are a limited number of Fledgling Promoters Awards.

Jazz Services

Jazz Services provides a voice and support for UK Jazz; promoting its growth, accessibility and development in the UK and abroad.
