Changing Demographics

A recent survey in arts participation for the arts in America by the National Endowment for the Arts (Arts Participation 2008. Highlights from a National Survey. http://arts.endow.gov/news/-news09/SPPA-highlights.htm) produced some alarming findings: Since 1982, young adult (18 – 24) attendance rates have declined significantly for jazz, classical music, opera, ballet and non- musical plays.

The crucial question is, will this problem be replicated in the UK along the lines that events in the USA are eventually mirrored in the UK (for example sub-prime mortgages) – or is jazz 'holding its own' in the UK?
