Musical Commission; Manchester Jazz Festival

Submit your proposals for an ambitious and original piece of music!

Now in its 5th year, mjf originals is a scheme unique in the UK. The successful applicant will be commissioned by mjf and supported in the run up to a performance of the new piece in July 2013. The completed work will be premiered at the upcoming festival as part of mjf’s on-going commitment to encouraging artistic creativity among musicians based in the North-West.

The successful applicant will produce an ambitious and innovative piece of work that pushes the limits of the artist’s previous endeavours, as well demonstrating originality in the field of jazz composition. The parameters of the commission are to be determined chiefly by the chosen artist, as mjf is dedicated to providing an opportunity for talented musicians to work freely in the pursuit of new and aspirational art. The artist will also have the privilege of having their work premiered at one of Manchester’s most prestigious music venues during the 2013 festival.

This initiative is committed to supporting musicians based in the North West and their participation in the project will be a primary concern. National/International composers and musicians are welcome to apply provided a strong connection to the North-West music scene is evident.

Applications are now open to musicians to submit their proposals for this exciting project.

The deadline for the submission of applications will be at 10:00am Monday, 12 November 2012.

Interviews will take place between the 26th and the 29th of November.

Next year’s festival will run from the 26th of July to the 3rd of August 2013.
