Jazz Services has received the following release form the International Festival-Contest of Jazz Improvisation Skills "Master-Jam Fest" in Odessa in the Ukraine. Entrants are invited to submit recorded video footage of their improvisational skills in order to enter the compettion, with the final selections being invited to the festival to perform in an 'all star' band. The International Festival "MASTER-JAM FEST" invites jazz improvisers!
The International Festival-Contest of Jazz Improvisation Skills "Master-Jam Fest" in Odessa (a ‘jazz capital’ of the Ukraine, cultural and tourist centre near the Black Sea) has started an online pre-selection of jazz musicians and improvisers. It was founded by Mikhail Freidlin, the producer of the well-known Jazz Carnival in Odessa in the Ukraine and abroad. Master-Jam Fest is a conceptually new festival-competition of jazz improvisation skills, based on the principles of a jam session!
The final of this enchanting holiday will be held in Odessa in the end of April 2013, and will mark the UNESCO International Day of Jazz. It expects a large number of foreign artists, and there are leading jazz experts and educators, well-known connoisseurs and lovers of jazz in the jury of the festival.
The mission of the festival-contest is: to determine the best jazz performers able to improvise, and to publicly recognize their talent. This project combines professional competition and the unique atmosphere of the jazz festival.
The winners of the online-tour will be invited to take part in the final of the contest. The travel and accommodation in Odessa during the final tour will be provided for them.
Please note that only individual improvisers can take part in the “Master Jam Fest” (not bands), as from these opening rounds ensembles bands will be created during the final by drawing lots.
The competition days will be devoted to the final rounds of the various styles of jazz. The jury will select the best instruments of the day at the end of each competition day. Winners of the contest day will form the best jazz ensemble of a respective jazz style (Mainstream, Latin Jazz, Jazz Ballad, Fusion, Jazz-Rock or Funk.
Final results for all contest days will determine laureates (“Jazz Grand Masters”) for each instrument and they will form the “Grand Prix” jazz ensemble of the festival. Members of the Laureate-ensemble of the festival will be awarded cash prizes and will be presented with an opportunity to record at one of the best recording studios of the world along with a worldwide tour.
Simultaneously with the Final Stage, the results of voting for the People’s Choice Award in every nomination will be summed up. The winners of this voting are not invited to Odessa but personal pages in the “Hall of Fame” will be opened for them on the Festival’s website. Interviews with them and their best video and audio records will be posted to these pages.
The registration is at the official festival website www.master-jam.com. The video-presentations of the contestants will be accepted until the 31st of December 2012, but it is advisable to do it earlier, because the jury has limits of the time for examining applications and making objective decisions.
