The award-winning trombonist presents his brand new power trio project, playing music from electrifying new album ?The 11th Gate? (Motéma). ?Dennis is no ordinary trombonist? says The Evening Standard. Virtuoso trombonist Dennis Rollins has performed at the forefront of UK jazz, funk and pop for 25 years, sharing the stage with such stars as Maceo Parker and Courtney Pine. His latest project is a brilliant mix of sophisticated contemporary jazz arrangements with simmering funk grooves. Dennis Rollins is well known on the British and international jazz scene and is celebrated for his versatility and muscular approach on that underrated instrument, the trombone. Dennis cut his teeth at the age of 14 studying and performing with The Doncaster Youth Jazz Association and further developed his education with the National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO), and the legendary all-black jazz big band The Jazz Warriors. He has since established a reputation as an artist of excellence, and has lent his unique and stylish talents to some of the world's top jazz and pop personalities such as Courtney Pine, Baba Maal, Jamiroquai, US3, Brand New Heavies, and Blur. He is also a key and crowd-pleasing member of the legendary Maceo Parker's band. In 2006 his jazz/funk outfit Badbone & Co won the prestigious BBC Jazz Award for Best Band and the following year he picked up Trombonist of the Year at both the British Jazz Awards, and the Ronnie Scott's Jazz Awards. He also received nominations in the Urban Music Awards and the Parliamentary Jazz Awards. Dennis was nominated twice in the 2008 Parliamentary Jazz Awards - for Jazz Musician of the Year and the Jazz Education Award; he won the latter in a ceremony hosted by Paul Gambaccini at the House of Commons Terrace Pavilion. In February 2008, in a ceremony at Mansion House, Doncaster, Dennis was given Honorary Freedom of the Borough in recognition of his successful musical career, and for his role as an inspiration to Doncaster's musical youngsters. Portuguese Pedro Segundo studied classical percussion at the Escola de Música do Conservatório Nacional (Lisbon) with Carlos Girão and Carlos Voss. At 17 he was awarded a Jazz Revelation Prize in Portugal's main Jazz Festival. In the same year he started performing with the Gulbenkian Orchestra in Lisbon. Pedro continued his studies at Guildhall School of Music and Drama in the Classical Percussion Course with David Corkhill (Philharmonia Orchestra), Richard Benjafield (Sinfonnieta, Ensemble Bash) and Michael Skinner (Royal Opera House, Covent Garden). Since then, he's performed with the créme of artists such as: Mário Franco(David Binney), Dennis Rollins, Carmen Souza, Cleveland Watkiss, Joao Paulo Esteves da Silva, Tomás Pimentel, Claus Nymark and the legendary Jay Corre(Buddy Rich Big Band) to name just a few. Pedro is the resident house drummer at Ronnie Scott's Jazz Club. Ross Stanley obtained a BMUS in classical and jazz piano at Guildhall in 2004. Since leaving, Ross's musical skills have kept him in high demand, seeing him play with jazz names such as Will Vinson, Guy Barker, Jamie Cullum, Ian Shaw, Liane Carroll, Stan Sulzman, Steve Arguelles, John Paracelli, Bobby Wellins, Clark Tracey, as well as being a regular member of the Jim Mullen Organ Trio and the Jacqui Dankworth band and performing in many small and large ensembles such as Nostalgia 77 Octet, The Heritage Orchestra. Ross has also toured with Steve Howe Trio, Deodato and has recorded for Goldie, US3, Trevor Horn and Simply Red among others. Ross is a Hammond endorsee.
