Pianist/composer Kate Williams released her fourth album, The Embrace, in 2008. She was brought up in London in a musical family (her father is the guitarist John Williams, and her mother is a classical pianist); she studied music at the University of East Anglia, and later attended the Guildhall School of Music's postgraduate jazz course. Her debut album, Sycamore Song, was released in 1999, and in 2000 she received the John Dankworth Award For Talent Deserving Wider Recognition at the British Jazz Awards. Kate's second album, Looking Out, was released in 2002; a trio album, Scenes And Dreams, followed in 2005. The material for her own quintet, quartet and trio is rich and varied, including pieces by McCoy Tyner, Chick Corea, Lennie Tristano, and Mulgrew Miller, as well as original compositions. In addition to working with her own band, Kate has played with numerous names on the UK jazz scene including Dave Cliff, John Etheridge, Jack Parnell, Matt Wates, Tim Whitehead, Tony Woods, Bobby Wellins, Chris Biscoe, Allison Neale, Julian Siegel and Juliet Kelly. She currently teaches piano and jazz ensembles at Richmond Adult and Community College, London.
