Aquarium's debut album was recorded in 2009 and released to a fantastic critical reception, alongside an extensive Arts Council funded national tour, in the summer of 2011 on the prestigious Babel Label . This was featured as one of the top 10 international Jazz albums of 2011 in MOJO Magazine, where it was described as "Multi-faceted and smart as a pin, this is poetic chamber Jazz of a very high order" (Chris Ingham). In April 2012 they recorded their second album for the exciting new label Jellymould Jazz . This is due for release in early 2013, with a launch at Kings Place on 12.01.2013. It was previewed in a very successful concert to an audience of around 500 people for the London Jazz Festival on 15.11.2012 in the Front Room of the Queen Elizabeth Hall . Sam Leak (26) has performed widely on the UK jazz scene as a sideman in the bands of musicians such as Ray Warleigh, Jay Phelps and Anita Wardell, and has shared the stage with most of the best known Jazz musicians on the London Jazz scene including Stan Sulzmann, Gareth Lockrane and Martin Speake. He has performed with his own band at a wide variety of venues and festivals including The Clore Ballroom of the Royal Festival Hall (broadcast on BBC Radio 3), Ronnie Scotts Jazz Club, and Brecon Jazz Festival. The first Aquarium album was recorded in December 2009 at Porcupine Studios . It was engineered by Nick Taylor, produced by Richard Fairhurst, and mixed by Steve Lowe. The next Aquarium album was recorded in April 2012 at Curtis Schwartz Studios and it has been mixed and mastered by Curtis Schwartz.
