Created in 1981 for 5 evenings, Jazz à Vienne became the first jazz festival in France, and the first cultural event in Rhône-Alpes. Jazz à Vienne joins in the cultural dynamics of the Viennese country and the city of Vienna, certified " City of Art and History" since 1990.
Every year, Jazz à Vienne gathers together 150 000 spectators around 4 main scenes and benefits from an international fame both with the audience and from artists. So Herbie Hancock, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Chet Baker, Keith Jarrett, Dizzy Gillespie, Lionel Hampton, James Brown, Ray Charles, Stan Getz, BB King, Eric Clapton, Ornette Coleman, Jan Garbarek, Hank Jones, Martial Solal, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Erik Truffaz, Seun Kuti, Archie Shepp, Dianne Reeves, Lizz Wright, Angélique Kidjo, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Joe Cocker, Paolo Conte, Paco De Lucia contributed by their talent and their generosity to the success of Jazz à Vienne.
