Biography

Described by Jazzwise as "the forgotten love child of Joni Mitchell and Terry Callier", jazz vocalist Orla Murphy's "creamy smooth" voice is popular with critics and audiences alike. She joins forces with respected pianist John Crawford and highly successful session players, bassist Andy Hamill and drummer Pat Illingworth on tour, to promote her second album "Wonderous Visions", described as "a breath of fresh air" by UK Jazz Radio.

Belfast born jazz vocalist, Orla Murphy's interest in jazz was fuelled by the plethora of great jazz musicians that performed at her late father?s bar and music room "The Bridge", during the early to mid-1990s. Since moving to London, Orla has performed regularly at various jazz venues throughout the city. She has worked and recorded with many of London?s leading jazz musicians, some of which feature on her second album Wonderous Visions. Orla has also performed at various international festivals throughout the UK and Ireland, as well as performing in Italy and Malaysia.

In demand pianist John Crawford has worked with international recognised musicians crossing several musical genres. Introduced to Latin music by his mother, he has gone on to work with percussion legends Airto Moreira and Giovanni Hidalgo and a wealth of other names. In the UK he has worked with Snowboy, Guida da Palma and Jazzinho. He has been a staple performer in the UK jazz scene, working with Tony Coe, Jason Yarde, Gilad Atzmon and Annie Whitehead amongst others. As a session musician he has performed with pop icons such as Bjork and Kirsty McColl. Some of the venues John has appeared at include the Montreal Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Getxo Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scotts, the 606 club and Royal Albert Hall.

Andy Hamill is an extremely accomplished bassist and in demand within the UK jazz scene and abroad. As well as playing the double bass, he plays bass guitar and chromatic harmonica. He has worked with Carleen Anderson, Ursula Rucker, Mark Murphy, Jeb loy Nichols, Omar, Anita Wardell, Tony Penultimate, Ben Castle, Rosie Brown, Kenny Young, Tony Woods and Chris Bowden - all of whom are featured on Andy's album Bee for Bass. Andy has also worked with a diverse range of artists and performs from Nitin Sawhnie to Kylie Minogue and Harry Hill. As a producer he has worked with Jane Ruby, Jeb loy Nichols, Ukelele Orchestra member Hester Goodman, violinist Julian Ferraretto and has produced two albums with his wife, singer songwriter Rebecca Hollweg.

Drummer Pat Illingworth has toured and recorded with a diverse range of highly accomplished musicians notably: Corinne Bailey-Rae, Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), Cinematic Orchestra, Jerry Dammers' (The Specials) Spatial AKA Orchestra, Soothsayers, Hugh Masekela, Zoe Rahman Just Jack, Maxi Jazz (Faithless), Jan Kopinski & Pinski Zoo, Mike Walker, Jim Mullen, Danny Thompson, FELA! London (National Theatre), Heather Small (M People), Dave O'Higgins, James Taylor Quartet (JTQ), Marcus Miller, Arun Ghosh, Juliet Kelly and Alan Barnes and many other great performers. He has toured in Brazil, Japan, Argentina, the U.S.A, the Middle East and most of Europe. He has performed on many commercial recording sessions including adverts for Sony, Library Music/Jingles for Audio Network and new BBC CBeebies Series "Rastamouse". Recent TV appearances include "LATER...with Jools Holland","The Culture Show" and "Parla Con Me" (RAI 3/Italy). Pat has taught drums at many leading music faculties including 5 years at LIPA in Liverpool.
