These short profiles of British jazz legends are written by Jazz Services specifically for the British Jazz History section of the website. They are necessarily brief and unfortunately do not cover every wonderful musician who has had an influence on UK jazz history. They are meant as a quick reference for those who are enjoying the UK jazz overviews in this section and provide further links to more extensive resources elsewhere for anyone wishing to learn more. This is a work-in-progress and many more profiles will appear in these pages, so don't forget to bookmark the British Jazz History section.
Many of the musicians here are still active and can be found in our Directory, where you can access details of some of their recordings and find out where they are performing.
Below is A-to-Z listing of all the articles in the British Jazz History category, largely comprising profile pages of the musicians for whom profile pages have so far been written. This is not, of course, meant as an authoritative list of 'great' British jazz musicians, and there are countless prominent musicians who are not yet listed here but who we will hopefully profile in due course.
For a fuller survey, I would refer you to John Chilton's excellent (though also not complete) Who's Who of British Jazz . Feel free to let us know who you consider to be the most serious omissions.
