

Alcyona began playing piano at the age of 3. She went on to study at the Birmingham Conservatoire and Royal Academy of Music with Liam Noble and Pete Saberton.
Upon receiving the Leverhulme Fellowship award from the Academy she was able to record her debut album ‘Around the Sun’ for quintet. Her album was shortlisted for a Parliamentary Jazz award earlier in 2007 and her quintet won the most recent Promoter’s Choice award.
Alcyona writes all original material for her quintet, ‘Blink’ trio (pictured above), and has recieved commissions to write for other bandleaders. She was shortlisted for the Paul Hamlyn Foundation Composer’s award 2007.
Currently touring with the Rosie Kay dance company she has worked with many musicians and performers.
Alcyona is a member of the Loop Collective, comprising musicians/writers running regular nights at venues in London featuring original music and improvisation. She also teaches piano in two secondary schools and has taught ensemble classes at the Royal Academy of Music.
