Jazz Services Board of Trustees


Trustees bring to their work for Jazz Services a range of qualities, but, apart from their love of jazz, they were recruited to the Board originally for their knowledge of the subjects/fields referred to in parenthesis:

Terry Adams (market research)

Christine Allen (record label and promoter)

Don Anderson (finance, including international)

Brian Blain (journalism)

John Blandford (ICT and business management)
John Blandford has extensive business, ICT Management and Project Management experience gained from various management and consultancy roles over more than 30 years. He has been involved in the jazz scene since the late 1960’s, initially as a promoter then as chair of a regional jazz organization. He joined the Board of the Jazz Centre Society in 1980 and was a founder Board Member of Jazz Services. After an extended sabbatical he returned to the Jazz Services Board in 2005. John is also a Board Member for the Artsdepot theatre in Finchley, North London.

Kathy Dyson (musician and MU EC member)

Emma Kendon (PR)
An independent researcher into UK jazz funding at City University in 1996, Emma went on to administer the Leeds International Music Festival and Jazz Education Conferences. She worked as PR Manager at Trinity College of Music, London and then promoted musicians and bands freelance. She now works exclusively in the charity sector as a fundraiser and chairs the Jazz Newspapers Ltd Board.

Peter Vacher (business management)
Peter Vacher has been writing about jazz for forty years. He writes jazz obituaries for The Guardian and contributes to many periodicals here and in North America. His most recent book is Soloists and Sidemen: American Jazz Stories. He is a Director of Jazz Services and Jazz Newspapers Ltd and lectures widely on jazz and related subjects.
He also spent thirty years in corporate life working in sales and marketing before becoming a freelance management trainer and business consultant. He was an associate lecturer for the Open University Business School for thirteen years and Senior Examiner for the Institute of Marketing.

Ivor Widdison, Chair (music education and government)
Ivor Widdison has been a lifelong Jazz enthusiast. He was the Administrator of the Council of Local Education Authorities from 1978 – 96 and Education Policy Co-ordinator of the Local Government Association 1996 – 1998. He was also Chair of National Youth Bureau from 1977 – 88; Member of Education & Training Standards Committees of National Youth Agency and Wales Youth Agency 1988 – 99; Trustee of Family Welfare Association (FWA) 1994 -2005; Chair of FWA Education Grants Advisory Panel 1990 to date. He has been a Jazz Services Ltd Trustee 1988 to date; an Executive member of National Music Council (NMC) 1973 to date and of the Music Education Council 2003 to date; and JSL representative on the National Music Education Forum since inception in 2003. Chair of the NMC LEA Music Awards Panel 1976 to date.
